PROJET PRESENTATION

“Our project for the hospital in the city, for a poetics of the ‘hospital connection’ is part of our end-of-studies project in Object Design at the École des arts décoratifs de Paris. It investigates the links between design and healthcare as well as how the social inclusion of children with disabilities in cities is achieved.

As part of our project , we are working with the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, in contact with patients and caregivers. We are immersed in the day unit, where children with poly-dyslexia, suffering from learning disabilities and behavioural problems, are to be found.

Our goal is to create solutions within the hospital unit that bring these children to smoothly start considering their discharge from the hospital as well as the value they can contribute to society.
This project examines the integration and autonomy of the patients of the child psychiatry service within our cities, society and the French capital. In particular, it considers the invention of appropriate new tools and devices that could not only foster bonding between children but also help channel their energy. The idea is to make the children work together in groups in order to introduce them to the notions of empathy, mutual aid and collective strategies. The challenge is to teach these children the fundamentals of life in society through the mediation of movement.” - Marie Danet and Laura Thulièvre
PROJECT PARTICIPANTS

Marie Danet and Laura Thulièvre, designers

Both former students at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, Marie Danet and Laura Thulièvre started collaborating during their Erasmus programme in the Design for Play master’s programme at Designskolen in Denmark. Marie then completed her dissertation: “Towards body liberation — On dance therapy in care and education.” Concurrently with this theoretical research, Laura is currently interning at Humaniteam, which has provided her with access to the hospital environment. This is when they started considering this project, which is part of their Master’s degree in Design Object at EnsAD.
